These are resources from Shelly Fryer's June 2026 "Innovation and Design" summer camps. These were offered June 15-18 through Summer at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In this camp, students become problem-solvers and creators as they explore the exciting world of engineering! Using the engineering design process—define, imagine, build, test, and improve—campers take on fun challenges that stretch creativity, teamwork, and resilience. This camp experience is designed for young minds eager to design and innovate. The camp offers two age-specific sessions tailored to 2nd and 3rd graders, as well as incoming 4th and 5th graders. From first ideas to final creations, students learn that mistakes aren’t setbacks—they’re stepping stones to innovation. Along the way, they’ll strengthen STEM skills while discovering the thrill of bringing ideas to life.
Travel the world of engineering and architecture—without leaving camp! Junior engineers will begin each day with a fun “global investigation,” exploring amazing structures and designs from around the world. From tall towers and sturdy bridges to floating boats and flying machines, campers will discover how people everywhere use engineering to solve problems.
Then it’s their turn to design, build, and test! Each day brings a new challenge inspired by real-world engineering feats:

Through these hands-on adventures, campers will practice teamwork, creativity, and persistence while learning how engineers everywhere brainstorm, test, and improve their ideas. By the end of camp, students will head home with new friends, newfound confidence, and a sense of wonder about the amazing world of engineering and architecture all around them.
Get ready for launch! This isn't just a camp—it's your child's first mission briefing to the Moon and beyond. Inspired by NASA's Artemis Program, students will work as a team of Space Systems Engineers to tackle the biggest challenges of space travel. Campers will spend the week in the Design Lab, applying the engineering design method and building critical systems to ensure a successful journey and safe return to Earth.
